As many of you know, fashion week just ended here in NYC. This year I had the pleasure and honor of attending the Zac Posen Fall/Winter 2016 show at Spring Studios in Tribeca. This was a fan moment for me, since he is not only one of my favorite designers, but also one of my favorite judges on Project Runway.
“For this collection, I had in mind the incredible journey of Princess Elizabeth of Toro who gained a level of fame around the world in the 1960s for her kind nature, stunning appearance, and exceptional intellect.” -Zac Posen
Mr. Posen’s quote explains where the inspiration for this beautiful, elegant and versatile collection originated. Princess Elizabeth of Toro was the first black woman to get a spread in Vogue Magazine and one of the first few female attorneys in East, Central and Southern Africa. Given the inspiration, Zac Posen decided to cast a majority of of black models for this runway show, which is still rare in the fashion world.
Now onto my report of the runway show. While I anxiously waited for the show to begin, I was able to spot some celebrities, such as Katie Holmes, Carla Gugino, Nina Garcia (also from Project Runway), Coco Rocha, Jennifer Hudson and Miss J Alexander Runway Coach Diva Extraordinaire (you may remember him from ANTM).
